Aeschleman Named Acting Dean of College of Arts and Sciences at Appalachian

BOONE–Stanley R. Aeschleman has been named acting dean of Appalachian State University’s College of Arts and Sciences effective July 1.

He replaces Linda Bennett who is leaving the university to become provost at the University of Southern Indiana.

Aeschleman has been chairman of Appalachian’s Department of Psychology since 1998. He came to Appalachian in 1989 as a professor in the psychology department and also served for two years as the department’s director of graduate studies.

Aeschleman has held teaching posts at Indiana University, Bloomington; Indiana University Perdue University, Indianapolis; the University of Auckland, New Zealand; and the University of Kentucky.

He earned a Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Kentucky and a B.A. from Western Illinois University.

Aeschleman is a co-author of “Gender differences in the association among nicotine dependence, body image, depression and anxiety within a college population,” being published in the journal “Addictive Behaviors.” His research also has been published in “Excellence in Teaching, Behavioral Processes,” “Journal of Rational-Emotive and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy” and “Rehabilitation Psychology,” among others.

He is a frequent presenter at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Psychological Association and the North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis.

Paul A. Fox, a professor in the Department of Psychology, has been named acting chairman of the department. Fox has been a member of the faculty at Appalachian since 1970.
