Art After School Program Begins in February

BOONE–Weekly art classes for children ages 6-12 will be held after school beginning in February at Appalachian State University’s Department of Art.

Called Art After School, the program is taught by art education majors on Tuesdays for children ages 6-8 and on Thursdays for children ages 9-12. Hours are 3:15-4:30 p.m. in 202 Wey Hall. The classes are designed to stimulate imagination, encourage creativity, develop perceptual awareness and nurture a global perspective of visual culture.

This semester’s Art After School theme is recycling. Students will be involved in a variety of methods and materials including drawing, collage, digital imaging, sculpture, fibers and printmaking.

Children ages 6-8 will meet Feb. 18 and 25, March 4, 18 and 25, and April 1, 8, and 15. Children ages 9-12 will meet Feb. 20 and 27, March 6, 20 and 27, and April 3, 10, and 17. No classes will be held March 11 and 13 due to the university’s spring break.
