Hayes School of Music Welcomes March with Song

BOONE–The month of March will be welcomed with song thanks to the talents of students and faculty in Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music.

Tenor Jimmy Buchanan performs Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Buchanan will be accompanied by pianist Eleanor Manley, guitarist Francisco Fernandez del Castillo, cellist Joel Wenger, baritone Nathan Waller and the Black Gospel Choir’s small ensemble.

The recital is a requirement of seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music.

Violinist Nancy Bargerstock performs at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall on Friday, March 1. Accompanying Bargerstock will be pianist Bair Shagdaron. Both are members of the Hayes School of Music faculty.

Two recitals will be performed Sunday, March 3.

Trumpeter William L. Jones presents a recital with guest organists Schuyler Robinson beginning at 6 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall.

Jones is a member of the music faculty at Appalachian. The program includes works by Handel, Bach, Haydn and Persichetti.

Music major Verne McGough presents a recital on the euphonium beginning at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Recital Hall.

Pianist Alla Neshatayeva is his accompanist.

The program includes works by Handel, Jacob, Marcello and Rimsky-Korsakov.

On Monday, March 4, guest flutist Akal Dev Sharonne performs beginning at 8 p.m. in the music center’s Recital Hall. The program “Is it Classical, Popular of Folk?” features works by Manuel de Falla, Domenicao Cimarosa, Theobald Boehm and a composition by Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham, a member of the music faculty, and Sharonnne.
