Alumni Association Officers Installed

BOONE —Julia Adams and Jeannine Underdown Collins of Boone and William L. Brown of Gastonia have been installed as officers of Appalachian State University’s Alumni Association for 2001-02.

They were installed as officers of the association’s governing council during homecoming activities Oct. 26.

Their terms begin and end at homecoming each year. Adams, an adjunct professor in health education at Appalachian, will serve a one-year term as the association’s president.

She is a member of the Alcohol/Drug Council of Watauga County and the Watauga Initiative to Reduce Underage Drinking board and chairs the Red Ribbon Week Celebration for Watauga County.

Adams’ campus activities include membership on the Holmes Center Advisory Board, the university’s Strategic Planning Commission and the homecoming committee. She has been active on Appalachian’s alumni council including service on the awards, membership, and advisory committees.

She graduated from Appalachian in 1956.

Collins was installed as vice president of the association. She is president of Underdown and Associates Inc. Collins is a current member and former president of the Yosef Club. She also is a member of the athletics council and the NCAA Recertification Committee. Collins also chaired the university’s centennial homecoming committee.

She received the alumni association’s Outstanding Service Award in 1996.

Collins earned a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian in 1979 and earned a master’s degree in 1981.

Brown will serve as the association’s secretary. Brown is a retired superintendent of Albemarle City Schools. He has served on the alumni council’s membership committee, was president of the Yosef Advisory Board, and a board member for six years. He also is a member of the Former Athletes Association.

Brown is past president of the Gaston Unit of N.C. Retired School Personnel. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1955 and master’s degree in 1958 from Appalachian and a doctorate in 1977 from Duke University.
