BOONE–New and veteran faculty members in the Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music open the Faculty Recital Series with a Tuesday, Sept. 11, performance.

The recital marks the 12th season of the recital series.

“An Evening of Encores” begins at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center’s Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.

Dr. William Harbinson, dean of the Hayes School of Music, says the recital usually draws a standing-room only crowd. “The Evening of Encores is one of the most anticipated recitals of our year,” he said.

“The performers have an opportunity to share the stage with a number of their colleagues, and the audience is treated to an evening that is varied, fast-paced and entertaining,” Harbinson commented.

The Sept. 11 concert features the talents of Alicia Chapman, Douglas Miller, Nancy Schneeloch, Rodney Reynerson, Bair Shagdaron, Douglas James, Kenneth Lurie, Jon Beebe, the Appalachian Brass Quintet and Brian Bailey.

The performance will include pieces for the voice, clarinet, piano, oboe, bassoon and electric cello.

“Entr’ Acte” composed by Jaques Ibert captures the Spanish culture in a guitar and flute duet while “Frostfire, Movement III,” a difficult piece for performers, celebrates the brass quintet.

Cuban dance will take center stage in “Pi’
