Barbershop Quartets Perform Aug. 18 at Appalachian

BOONE–The 20th annual Barbershop Quartet Show will be held Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. in Appalachian State University’s Rosen Concert Hall.

This year’s event features the International Champion Quartet “Platinum” from Tampa, Fla.

The group won the gold medal at the July 2000 International Competition held in Kansas City, besting 45 quartets from six countries.

They have recorded two CDs and have entertained across the United States during the past two years.

Also featured will be the International Collegiate Silver Medalist Quartet of 2000 “Low Down Sound” from Appalachian.

The quartet competed last year in Kansas City against 22 quartets from three countries.

A return appearance will be made by “Triad Harmony Express” barbershop chorus and their quartets from Winston-Salem.

The event is part of the Summer Performing Arts Series sponsored by Appalachian’s Office of Summer Sessions in cooperation with the Watauga County Arts Council.
