Hutchens Joins University Advancement Division at Appalachian

BOONE — Jerry L. Hutchens has been named senior associate vice chancellor for development at Appalachian State University.

Hutchens is former assistant vice president for development at Radford University and executive director of the Radford University Foundation Inc.

“Jerry brings a wealth of fund-raising and managerial experiences that will be valuable assets for Appalachian,” said Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Siegfried Herrmann. “We are pleased he has joined us, particularly at a time when private support has become more critical to providing the best learning and teaching environment possible for our students and faculty.”

While at Radford, Hutchens directed the university’s fund-raising program, including its $26.6 million campaign, the annual giving and major planned giving initiatives and special capital fund campaigns.

At Appalachian, Hutchens will manage the university’s development program, including planned and major gifts, annual giving and the final phase of the university’s current fundraising project, the Campaign for the Second Century.

Hutchens holds a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree from Radford University.

He began his duties at Appalachian Feb. 1.
