Fitness Testing Offered at Appalachian

BOONE–Area residents can learn more about their health and fitness at the Human Performance Laboratory in Appalachian State University’s Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science.

The lab provides low-cost, research-level quality tests including EKG-treadmill test with measurement of oxygen consumption, resting metabolic rate and skinfold body tests.

The EKG-treadmill test is the best indicator of heart and lung fitness. The test costs $50 and is for apparently healthy individuals only.

The resting metabolic rate test measures how many calories are used each day when resting compared to expected levels. This determines if a person’s metabolism is high or low. Cost is $20.
