Algonquin Book Editor Discusses Careers in Publishing

BOONE–Aspiring writers or publishers can learn more about the publishing world during a special presentation at Appalachian State University.

“Ask an Editor: A Celebration of New Stories from the South” Oct. 2 is sponsored by Appalachian’s Creative Writing Program, Career Development Center, the University Bookstore and Gideon Ridge Inn.

Duncan Murrell, an editor at Algonquin Books in Chapel Hill, will answer questions about careers in publishing, what an editor looks for in fiction and how stories were selected for the 15th anniversary edition of “New Stories from the South.” Copies of the anthology will be on sale following the program.

The presentation begins at 4 p.m. in Plemmons Student Union’s Calloway Peak Room.
