Thompson Appointed to Appalachian’s Board of Trustees

BOONE–N. Bradley Thompson Jr. of Baden Lake has been appointed to a one-year term on the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees by the UNC Board of Governors.

Thompson will fill the unexpired term of Ben D. Quinn, who died in May. Thompson will be sworn in during the board’s Sept. 15 meeting. His term will expire in June 2001.

Thompson is state chief executive officer of SouthTrust Bank’s operation in North Carolina. He joined SouthTrust in 1993 following an 11-year career with BB&T.

Thompson has contributed many years of service to the university. He has been a member of the Appalachian State University Foundation Board of Directors since 1996. He co-chaired the Mecklenburg County annual gift campaign in 1989. He served on the alumni council from 1990-95 and was council secretary and vice president, served on the Yosef Board of Advisors and is a founding member of the Alumni Corporate Committee. He also served on the “Campaign for Appalachian” steering committee from 1992-94.

He helped lead the fund-raising effort to construct the university’s alumni center and is involved with the university’s comprehensive “Campaign for the Second Century.”

Thompson and his wife, Amanda, received the university’s Outstanding Service Award in 1999.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian in 1980 and a master’s degree in 1982.
