Organ and Sacred Music Recital is Feb. 6

BOONE—Organ and sacred music by composers ranging from J.S. Bach to Aaron Copland will be performed Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. The program is part of the Organ and Sacred Music Recital Series at Appalachian State University and will be presented in Rosen Concert Hall.

Several School of Music students will perform during the recital.

Baritone James Thomson and harpsichordist Laurie Spencer will perform Heinrich Schutz’s “I Will Praise the Lord at all Times.”

Soprano Elizabeth Brasher and harpsichordist Sylvia Rippy team for “My Heart Ever Faithful” by J.S. Bach.

Bach’s “Fantasy and Fugue in G Minor, S. 542″ will be played by organist Emily Wallace.

Aaron Copland’s “At the River” and “Zion’s Walls” will be sung by tenor Grayson Tucker accompanied by pianist Elizabeth Hill.

Matt Brittain, organist, performs Cesar Franck’s “Fantasy in A.”

And the organ work “A Mighty Fortress is our God” will be performed by Sean Gossett.

Other programs in the series are a recital featuring organist Judy Congdon of Houghton College on March 5 at 4 p.m. and “The Seven Last Words of Christ” performed by the First Baptist Church Chancel Choir April 16 at 8 p.m.
